W. Harry Clarke, Immediate Past President

W. Harry Clarke retired in 2011 after 43 years as a professor in the School of Music at the University of Kentucky. From 1968 to 1989 he was Director of Bands; from 1989 to 2003 he was Director of the School of Music. Under his leadership, the school was designated an “Area of Excellence” by the University. Through all of those years, Professor Clarke taught music education classes and served as director of student teachers. 
 
After retiring, Clarke was elected as a member of Lexington’s City Council and continues to serve on a number of boards and commissions. In addition to his role with OperaLex, he currently serves on the Board of Adjustment, the Tree Board, the Water Quality Fees Board, and the Moon Dance Foundation. 
 
In May of 2021, the University of Kentucky honored Professor Clarke with the honorary doctorate, “Doctor of Humane Letters.”
