Sandy Archer

Sandy Archer, the Immediate Past President of OperaLex is a transplanted New Yorker who has lived in Lexington, raising his four children, for over 30 years. He completed his Otolaryngology (Ears, Nose and Throat) residency at the University of Iowa and is a Tenured Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, since he helped start the program in 1988. He has an active interest in clinical research and medical student and resident education. Since 1988 he has been selected as one of the 100 best doctors in his specialty. One of his main areas of expertise includes Care of the Professional Voice. He is the Medical Director of the UK Voice and Swallowing Clinic and medical consultant for the UK OperaTheater and various other performing arts programs in the region. He serves on the editorial board of several ENT publications and committees and previously on its Board of Governors. He has also served on the Board of Directors of several non-profit community organizations.

His initiation into opera occurred in his third year of college at Wake Forest University when he was working on the sets of all the productions and one of them happened to be the very first opera he ever saw. “I experienced it from backstage and fell in love with opera ever since.”

Dr. Archer has been on and off the Board of Directors of OperaLex for over 20 years and recently completed a three year stint as President. “I love working with the students and the faulty of UK Opera Theater, and especially its chair, Dr. Everett McCorvey.”
