Judy Higgins

Judy Higgins moved to Kentucky in 2010 from Qatar, where she spent eight years in charge of educational resources for the Emir of Qatar’s educational foundation. She grew up in Georgia, studied at the University of Michigan and spent the first half of her career as a German teacher in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Retiring to Kentucky, she did what she always wanted to do; wrote a novel, The Lady, a finalist in the Amazon Breakout Novel Contest. It fictionalized Judy’s own desire as a teenager to be a concert pianist. Her main character achieved this goal, but Judy did not. Instead, she continues to write novels, play tennis, and find ways to get out of cooking.

She saw her first opera, Rigoletto, in college and was so transfixed she went back the second night to see it again. All Verdi operas appeal to her because she finds their orchestrations both comforting and exciting.

Judy loves Lexington, Kentucky, in general, music, traveling, and fried chicken (although she lacks the ability to fry it up like her grandmother did.) She is an advocate for equalized education, be it music or any other field.
