Dr. Zackery “Zack” Morris is a tenor, educator, and arts advocate based in Paris, Kentucky. A native of Raleigh, North Carolina and a graduate of the University of Kentucky, Zack has maintained a longstanding connection to both UK Opera Theatre and OperaLex. From 2017 to 2018, he served as Student Liaison to the OperaLex Board, gaining firsthand insight into the organization’s commitment to opera education, community engagement, and the development of emerging artists.
Zack’s passion for vocal arts advocacy and expanding access to artistic opportunities has shaped both his professional and volunteer work. He is especially committed to supporting the next generation of performers and audiences and to strengthening awareness of the extraordinary talent and artistic opportunities found throughout Kentucky.
As a student, Zack was also a direct beneficiary of OperaLex’s mission. Early in his graduate studies, he received an anonymous $200 donation from an OperaLex member toward the purchase of a new suit. Although he never learned the identity of the donor, Zack debuted that suit during his first Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions performance. He and his husband, Logan, were also frequent volunteers at Prelude and Encore events during their student years, where they developed strong relationships with members of the Bravo Guild, an earlier iteration of OperaLex’s student-facing initiatives.
As a performer, Zack has appeared with opera companies and festivals throughout the United States, including Kentucky Opera, Opera Saratoga, American Lyric Theater, Opera Maine, The Ohio Light Opera, Gulf Shore Opera, Carolina Opera, and the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre. Recent engagements include Kentucky Opera’s 2026 production of Offenbach’s Songbird and the role of Kaspar in Amahl and the Night Visitors. In October 2026, he will appear as a principal artist in the University of Kentucky Opera Theatre’s production of Rappahannock County. Lexington audiences may also recognize him from UK Opera Theatre productions including Les Misérables, Ragtime, Così fan tutte, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Silent Night, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and many others.
In addition to opera, Zack is an active concert and oratorio soloist and has performed with organizations including the Kentucky Bach Choir, Bach Akademie Charlotte, Fort Wayne Bach Collegium, Bourbon Baroque, and numerous church and community music programs. He is also featured on the forthcoming recording of Benedict Sheehan’s The Passion of Mary with Artefact Ensemble.
Beyond the stage, Zack serves as an Academic Advisor in the University of Kentucky College of Fine Arts, where he supports the academic and professional development of undergraduate music students. Supporting young artists is at the heart of his work, and he remains committed to helping ensure a vibrant future for opera and the vocal arts throughout Kentucky.
